Cora Andrus

High School Individuals & Societies

Mrs. Andrus grew up in Connecticut with her three younger brothers, two sets of parents, and three cats. She has always loved collecting books, especially mysteries and thrillers. When she visits home, she always hits up a beautiful used bookstore from her childhood to trade in some novels for new ones and to pet some cats on the property. Mrs. Andrus also enjoyed participating in the theater program at her high school and particularly loved performing in Legally Blonde: The Musical.

Mrs. Andrus came to Idaho in order to get a degree in Social Studies Education from BYUI, which she completed in December 2022. She has a passion for law and government and hopes to use these topics as a lens through which to see ourselves and our history. Mrs. Andrus did continue to pursue theater in college and helped backstage on a few productions before leaving to live in Brazil for a year and a half as a missionary. There she learned Portuguese and fell in love with the special culture. When she returned to the States and to BYUI, she knew for sure she wanted to be a teacher and became really devoted to political science. She reconnected with a guy from her science class, and before she knew it, they decided to get married! They’ve been married for three years now.

Mrs. Andrus is ready to be part of Alturas as a first year teacher! She is excited to have meaningful conversations with the students about how our history has shaped the world today. She is ready to discover more about the subjects she loves and to watch her students do the same.
