Sydney Wood

Middle School Language & Literature

Sydney Wood hails from the mountains of Northern Idaho. She grew up the oldest sibling in a large family of girls, with many nearby aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins with which to share her life and time. Growing up in rural Idaho, she relishes any chance to be immersed in nature, through hiking, boating, fishing, biking, rock climbing, or snowboarding. She recently acquired a National Parks pass that she has been putting to good use, and she plans to visit all of the nation’s parks in her lifetime.

Mrs. Wood has always loved writing, poetry, and literature and turned that passion into a lifelong pursuit as a student and teacher of English. After high school, she attended Brigham Young University-Idaho, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow bookworms, poets, critical thinkers, and creatives. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in English Education as a student-teacher at a middle school in Salt Lake Valley, Utah.

It is Mrs. Wood goal to help individual learners realize the power of words, books, effective communication, and self-expression through language. She is extremely excited to return to her home state to pursue this goal. But she is more excited about joining the Alturas Prep team because the school’s unique model of learning through collaboration, critical thinking, and real-world-skill-integration coincides with her vision of valuable academic development. She is enthusiastic about the opportunity to make meaningful connections with her students and take part in providing a positive educational environment and learning experience for students at APA.
